London-based photographer Roman Sakovich’s startling portraits show the devastating effects of drug abuse. Before you freak out on this images, hear the facts: this pictures were done in a studio, using makeup. But no need to relax, see what real drug abuse looks like. Roman Sakovich produced the project entitled “Half” while he was studying photography at the Arts University College at Bournemouth. He photographed subjects in the studio using make-up in order to explore the outsiders superficial judgement of the same person before and after drug abuse. Instead of doing separate photographs, Sakovich decided to combine both looks in to one shot — that way the change is more visible. The project mainly looks at heavy abuse of drugs such as meth, which has a high addiction level and dramatic impact on a person’s physical appearance. These photographs are not a merge of two images into one. Instead the photographer used make up on one side of the face and kept other side normal.
