‘Milay Hum Kuch Is Terha’, a tele-play won Best Director Award at FILUMS 11(Lums International Film Festival). This project was also selected by Rafi Peer Group for screening at International Youth Festival 11.
It is a story of Conflict between Eastern and Western Cultures and the way the youth tackles it with dignity and duplicity.
This is a light heart comedy which portrays pure and not so pure emotions of the Pakistani youth. And the problems they face in their practical life. ‘Sania’ and ‘Salman’
are the central characters while ‘Sara’, ‘Ayesha’ and ‘Faisal’ are cast in their secondary roles. ‘Fayez’ is an interesting character who helps in unfolding the story.
Sania is a college girl and Salman doing his House Job in a hospital meet quite by chance. The first important turn in a story comes when Sania was forced to leave the hostel room while Salman gets the house on the condition that he should have a married status (Eastern Culture). Both in view of their specific limitations, agree to live together (Western Culture) in the same house. This fortnight stay together lead to various conflicts which are resolved in due course. However, both of them continue to conduct themselves with mutual respect which continues till the end. In fact, Fayez’s little prank during the period brings suspense to the story and keep the viewers interest focused.
The arrival of Sania’s father creates a new conflict in the play. The element of suspicion is overcome by play on duplicity, and the relation of mutual respect continues to hold between Sania and Salman. At last both of them get there separate accommodation.
The play highlights the issues of young Pakistanis, split between Eastern and Western social trends. These have been symbolically portrayed, for example close relations between boys and girls can continue with in the limit of decency, dignity and duplicity of the elders etc. Ankle sprain has been used at various places as a symbol to bring the characters out of difficult situations and the conditions continue to move to a logical end. Apparently it deserves the title of a good social comedy.
